CARLA KRIETSCH

Stuart, Virginia | cbh129@gmail.com

My name is Carla Krietsch and I am a multimedia artist based in SW Virginia. I come from a family of artists and have enjoyed a lifetime surrounded by innovation and creativity. I studied art at NY State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and architecture at NVCC in the early 1980’s. After retiring from a career in healthcare, I am now able to embark upon my creative journey by exploring avenues of creative expression. I enjoy the tranquility of rural Virginia and derive inspiration from every aspect of nature. Hiking, gardening, outdoor adventures and listening to music are supplements for my soul. Love is the answer.

ABOUT THE PIECE

Fairystones are unique Staurolite crystals found in abundance in the Appalachian area of Virginia near the Patrick County and Henry County border line. Legend has it that long ago, fairies frolicked in the region now known as Fairystone. Upon hearing of the crucifiction of Jesus, the fairies wept tears which formed into stone crosses. These cross-like crystals are only found in a few places in the world. They are a rare and intriguing phenomenon unique to our region.
